Modesto “Chic” Barone, 91, passed away on March 8, 2026. It is with profound sadness that we announce his passing.

Chic lived a colorful and eventful life filled with many entertaining escapades. Above all, he was an outdoorsman—an avid fisherman, hunter, and devoted lover of nature and animals. He cared deeply for animals, birds, and fish, and held a special place in his heart for his beloved bird, Coqui, and his dog, Cookie. He also loved his Bronco, which was his trusted companion on countless fishing and hunting trips.

Born and raised in New Rochelle, Chic maintained a large circle of friends and family from childhood through adulthood who remained an important part of his life. He visited with them often, and many of his closest friendships were built around shared passions for fishing and hunting. At the end of hunting season, they would gather to enjoy venison dinners together and share stories.

Chic had an innate curiosity about the world. He enjoyed reading articles and books and watching programs about nature, animals, and politics. He loved lively discussions on any topic and was known for passionately defending what he believed was the “right” point of view—though he always insisted he was just “talking.”

Chic was the proud patriarch of a large and loving extended family. He is survived by his daughters, Marie Dolan, Debra Di Buono, and Theresa Barone; five grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; as well as his sister-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Chic will be remembered for his love of life, loyalty, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, his caregiver Vinita, and his faithful companions, Coqui and Cookie, as he heads to his happy hunting grounds.

A celebration of Chic’s life will be held at a later time.
